First of all its a good idea to make a list of the things that definitely need to be moved Interstate. Make a list of the things that you might like to keep. Finally, write a list of the things you would definitely like to sell, recycle or giveaway.

Doing this excerise makes you re-think what you really need to move Interstate with you. Once you decide on all the items that you would like to sell plan a garage sale, ebay www.ebay.com.au or gumtree www.gumtree.com.au listing. Items that you list on ebay can be sold at a set price or an auction price. Ebay then take a percentage of the selling price as commission. Items sold on gumtree are generally free to list and are a set price only, customers may wish to barter with you for a better price though!

 

When Moving Home Consider Giving Unwanted Items to Charity

Items that you would like to pass on you could take them to a Salvation Army or Op Shop. You may wish to call to confirm their operating hours, as most stores wont accept goods outside trading hours.

Items such as mattresses and old unusable toys or furniture should not be taken to an Op Shop, but should be taken away via a council hard rubbish collection. Contact your local council to find out the rules in your area and booking times and arrangements that need to be made.
